Safer systems, built together
Holon supports the people and small organizations making this city better by building their capacity to operate and coordinate.
This week brought urgent fixes for PHP2Shell, two serious flaws in PHP, the software behind a large share of the world's websites. Attackers are already trying to use them.
What to do
- If you run a websiteAsk your web host to confirm that PHP itself is updated. Updating WordPress or its plugins is not enough.
- If you use other groups' websitesAsk the groups you trust whether they have the update. What you entered in their forms could be exposed.
- If you use HolonNothing. None of our systems run PHP.
Small groups shouldn't face this alone
Harris County alone has more than 20,000 nonprofits. Most are small, and many run on goodwill, a group chat and one person's memory. When a flaw like this appears, one volunteer often has to handle it.
Holon builds shared systems these groups could not afford alone: a board for volunteer days, a map of what is happening nearby, messages without sharing your phone number, and a record of each place. They are designed from the ground up to be secure and private, and most are free.
Nobody is free from risk, and neither are we. So we put our promises in writing. Read them and tell us what you think.
